The Reverend George Daisa

Rector

George and his family came to the Parish of Saint Patrick in September 2016, where he serves as Rector, (or Executive Pastor in Episcopal-speak). He served a large parish in the Pacific Palisades for six years as the Associate Rector for Pastoral Care before moving to the Conejo Valley and joining the community of St. Patrick’s, Thousand Oaks. Before that he helped to start an Emergent Episcopal Church in Culver City, California called Thad’s.

A native of California, George was raised a Presbyterian and married a Roman Catholic, so the Episcopal Church was the via media where he and his wife, Karen, could worship God and create community together. They welcomed their daughter, Amelia, in 2005, and have been on the wild adventure of love, life and child-rearing for the last twenty-three years. They enjoy hiking in the Conejo Valley’s gorgeous open spaces with their Golden Retriever, Evy, gardening and cooking.

The Reverend Laurel Johnston

Assisting Priest

The Rev. Laurel Johnston was ordained in 2007 by the Right Rev. Sylvestre Romero, Assisting Bishop of the Diocese of El Camino Real. She has served as an Associate Priest in several parishes, including St. John the Baptist in Capitola, Trinity Episcopal Church in Santa Barbara, and Epiphany in Oak Park. From 2009–2015, she was on the staff of the Most Rev. Dr. Katharine Jefferts Schori, the 26th Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, serving as Director of Stewardship. In this capacity, she worked with 110 dioceses across the country, resourcing 7,700 congregations to carry out annual giving campaigns grounded in faith and generosity

For more than three decades, Laurel has raised major gifts to support the mission of some of America’s premier nonprofits, including the American Red Cross; CARE, the international relief and development organization; the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute; and Many Mansions, the largest supportive affordable housing organization in Ventura County. She recently accepted the position of Vice President of Philanthropy at Adventist Health Simi Valley.

Pastor Laurel brings a unique blend of stewardship and fundraising expertise, combined with a passion for congregational vitality that is rooted in the vows and promises of baptism. She values shared ministry, group discernment, and neighborhood partnerships that advance God’s reign. A Jesus-centered preacher, she is committed to sacramental worship that nurtures the community to be the body of Christ in the world. Born in Boston and raised in Northridge, California, Laurel earned a B.A. in International Relations and Spanish from UC Davis and a Master of Divinity from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, CA.
